Terms of Service

Last updated: 19 July 2026

Who we are

These Terms are the agreement between you and Beyond News, which is based in Portugal.

By using Beyond News you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.

What Beyond News is

Beyond News takes news reports published by news organisations and uses AI to rewrite them into articles that explain the local context a newcomer is missing, with background on the people, places and institutions involved, and an indication of where sources disagree.

It is a reading tool, not a newsroom. We do not employ journalists and we do not report original news. What you read is generated automatically from other people's reporting, and every article links to the reports it came from.

The app is free, and is early software under active development. Features will change, and some of it will be rough.

Accuracy, and why you should check

Please read this part properly, because it is the one that matters most.

Articles in Beyond News are written by AI. Automated summarising can get things wrong: it can introduce errors, drop context that changes the meaning, attribute a statement to the wrong person, or state something outdated with complete confidence. We work at reducing this, and we will not eliminate it.

So: do not rely on Beyond News as your only source for anything that matters. Follow the source links on any article that will inform a decision. Nothing in the app is legal, medical, financial, immigration or safety advice, and it should not be treated as any of those.

Who can use it

You need to be at least 16 years old, and you need to be able to enter into a contract where you live.

Your account

You sign in through Google or Apple. Keep that account secure, because anyone who can get into it can get into Beyond News. Give us accurate information, and keep your account to yourself rather than sharing it around.

What you agree not to do

Content and ownership

The original reporting belongs to the news organisations that produced it, and nothing here transfers any rights in it to you or to us. The synthesised articles, explanations, entity profiles and the structure of the app are ours.

While your account is open we give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to read that material inside the app for your own use. That is the whole of it: no other rights are granted.

If you are a publisher and object to how your reporting is being used, please email us. We would rather hear from you and sort it out.

Availability

We will try to keep Beyond News running and useful, but it is a free service and a small operation. We cannot promise it will always be available, and we may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it. If we ever shut it down for good, we will give you reasonable notice and a chance to export your data first.

Ending this agreement

You can stop at any time by deleting your account in Privacy & Data. That erases your data as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms. Unless the breach is serious or we are legally obliged to act immediately, we will warn you first and give you the chance to export your data.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Beyond the above, and because Beyond News is provided free of charge: we do not accept liability for losses that were not a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms, for business losses, or for the consequences of relying on an article without checking its sources.

If you are a consumer, none of this affects the rights you have under the mandatory consumer-protection law of the country you live in. Those rights stand whatever these Terms say.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the app changes. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version, and if a change materially affects you we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Beyond News after that means you accept the new version; if you would rather not, you can delete your account.

Who you are contracting with

Beyond News is run from Portugal by an individual rather than a company. If you need the operator's full name and contact details in writing, including to bring a claim, email hello@beyondnews.ai and we will provide them.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Portuguese law, and the courts of Portugal have jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of your own country's mandatory consumer law, and you may bring proceedings in the courts where you live.
